Columns, A Complete Unknown and OoTR
This week, I’m going to send out that column arguing in favor of public funding for cultivated-meat research to stop pandemics. Give this a look if you want to submit your own writing: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/norovirus-columns-and-mrs-davis
Anyway, let’s move on to my favorite part of the blog, (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and playing lately.
Movie — A Complete Unknown. I’m not a Dylanologist or anything, but I thought this was pretty great. Timothée Chalamet stars as the iconic singer-songwriter in the James Mangold-directed biopic. Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro round out the cast.
Game — Ocarina of Time Randomizer. I’ve watched streamers play the title before, but have never tried it myself. The game shuffles items, enemies and other stuff to provide a new experience each playthrough. I was surprised to be able to get it to work on the Delta iOS emulator.
Sports — Knicks beat 76ers, 110-105. Karl-Anthony Towns was out due to knee soreness. An undermanned Philadelphia squad likely would have stole the win, were it not for Jalen Brunson’s late-game heroics. He finished the match with 32 points. Mikal Bridges was close behind.
Sports — Knicks beat Grizzlies, 114-113. Towns was back and Ariel Hukporti was out with a torn meniscus. The big roster news, however, was Mitchell Robinson’s season debut. OG Anunoby knocked down a final three pointer with five seconds left. Thankfully, New York held on.
Sports — Knicks beat Heat, 116-112. After trailing by 19, New York took this one in overtime. Brunson led with 31 points. Whoever filled in for commentator Mike Breen called the point guard Captain Crunch Time. I hadn’t heard the nickname before, but it seemed fitting.
Meditation passage — 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Eknath Easwaran recommends this as part of a longer selection. However, that intimidated me a bit, so I cut it down. I may be adding passages too quickly. I noticed I’m absentmindedly skipping over a recently-incorporated selection.
