Norovirus, columns and Mrs. Davis
My family got sick with what we think was norovirus this week. So that was rough. Blech.
I’m going to send out the column about mandating in-ovo sexing machines at egg hatcheries. If you’d like to submit your own writing to newspapers, check this out: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, it’s time for (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and listening to recently.
TV — Mrs. Davis. This is a bonkers show, starring Betty Gilpin as a nun fighting artificial intelligence. Honestly, there was so much going on, I’m not sure I followed everything, however it was a fun adventure. The limited series was created by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof.
Music — Total Liberation by Gather. So many of the Generation-X activists I was inspired by came to animal rights through vegan straightedge. I tried to get into the genre, but it was a little too cacophonic for my taste. Still, I occasionally enjoy bands like this.
Sports — Knicks beat Bulls, 113-111. Josh Hart was out with runner’s knee. OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson were still sidelined as well. Chicago, a team projected to be in the draft lottery, has given New York trouble this season. The Knicks squeaked by in overtime.
Sports — Knicks lose to Cavaliers, 142-105. Anunoby returned in what was an embarrassing rout. I miss last year’s New York squad. They may not have been as talented, but with Isaiah Hartenstein, Julius Randle, and Donte DiVincenzo, they had more fighting spirit.
Sports — Knicks lose to Celtics, 118-105. Hart was back in the starting lineup. It didn’t stop New York from getting creamed. They’re now 0-7 against Utah, Cleveland and Boston. I think there will need to be significant changes to make a championship-level team.
