Vegan YouTuber supports cellular agriculture
Natalie Fulton — who has an animal-rights themed YouTube channel, The Juggling Vegan — supports increased government funding for cultivated meat research. Her work in the animal movement mostly consists of street outreach and volunteering with The Humane League. She couldn’t remember when she first heard about cellular agriculture.
“After talking to so many meat eaters, it seems that the biggest reasons they keep eating meat are price and taste,” Fulton said. “I think cultivated meat would solve both of those problems.”
She believes that when cellular agriculture can compete on price and taste, it will send animal agriculture into a quick decline. Fulton added meat companies will initially resist this, but once they realize they can make money from cultivated meat, they will get on board. She urged her fellow activists to support the nascent technology.
“Look at the history of whaling,” Fulton said. “Whale oil was used to light lamps, but once kerosene and petroleum were available, people switched to that and the whaling industry plummeted and was eventually outlawed. Sometimes humans need technological advancements to help expand our moral circle.”
