Senator Blumenthal should support increased federal funding for cultivated-meat research
I protested outside Richard Blumenthal’s office today, urging the senator to support increased federal funding for cultivated-meat research for the sake of the environment, public health and animal welfare. It was an interesting morning.
It started with me getting lost. Blumenthal’s office is on the 10th floor of a Hartford building. As far as I could tell, there were no identifying signs on any of the ground-level entrances. Finally, I found the entrance to a parking garage which I believe is where staff goes in and out from.
I wasn’t beside the garage long before a security guard tried to get me to move. I declined. He threatened to call the police. I said he was welcome to, as I was fairly sure I was on a public sidewalk. Some other security guards or building employees came out and started asking me questions.
Eventually, a police officer did come. He was perfectly nice, saying it was indeed a public sidewalk and that as long as I didn’t block any entrances, I was good to go. All in all, it wasn’t the warmest reception I’ve had at one of these pickets. You would think Blumenthal would want to treat his constituents better.
As always, if you engage in a protest like this of your elected officials, send a photo and text description to JonHoch87@gmail.com. You may be featured on this website.
