Primary prep and culture talk
I’ve noted before the CT left, of which I’m a part, really missed an opportunity to run a progressive primary challenger last year against Senator Richard Blumenthal, who has refused to say he will support increased public funding for cultivated-meat research. I don’t think he’s up for election again until 2028.
Recently, I sent letters to the offices of all the top CT Democratic officeholders I could find email addresses for. These includes members of the state executive branch, members of the state legislature, and the CT congressional delegation. My messages asked if the recipient would consider a future primary challenge to Blumenthal and whether they would support increased federal funding for cell-ag development.
I don’t really expect to get letters back. But I figure, what’s the harm? Perhaps, some Democratic flunky will forward my letter to Blumenthal’s office and it will momentarily get their attention. One of the downsides of spending so much time on parts of the left which didn’t value electoral engagement is I don’t have a good sense of what the best pressure points are for politicians.
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk:
Movie — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. I couldn’t stop smiling watching this film. The soundtrack is great, featuring music from Ol’ Dirty Bastard, A Tribe Called Quest and others. The titular characters are played by an actual group of teenagers, with great chemistry, reading a script written by a team that included Seth Rogen. Finally, the animation style, which was made to appear hand-drawn, was very cool. It was a little reminiscent of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.
