Midterms, protest uncertainty, letters and more
Well, the midterm results were a relief. Now, Attorney General Merrick Garland needs to do his job and indict former-President Donald Trump. If Garland won’t do it, President Joe Biden needs to find someone who will. Ultimately, the buck stops with him.
Timid Democrats have been a major factor in the rise of fascism in the United States. Despite the party’s strong midterm results, I continue to believe the elderly, centrist leadership needs to be replaced with younger, more progressive politicians. Democratic success was in spite of the current leadership, not because of it.
On another note, I’m uncertain of how much I’ll be able to protest over the next couple of weeks. We’re busy with all the normal stuff, but my poor son is sick again. Also, our car won’t start. This is the second time it’s done this over the course of a week, so it clearly needs more than a jump. Then, we’ll be going out of town for Thanksgiving.
So, I’ll probably send out at least one letter to newspapers. I might argue Biden’s USDA should put the $223 million it’s giving out in grants and loans to expand slaughterhouse capacity toward cultivated-meat research. If you want to write your own letters, check out this post:
Anyway, it’s time for (Cell) Culture Talk, that feature in which I highlight some of the things I’ve been watching, playing, and listening to lately.
TV — Glee. I can’t remember how much of this I’ve seen. My wife has watched the whole thing. We thought the kids might like the music. That said, it’s kind of eery how many members of the young cast are now dead.
Sports — Knicks lose to Thunder, 145-135. Apparently, Head Coach Tom Thibodeau’s seat is starting to get warm. I’m a little hesitant to see him go, because he’s been the most successful Knicks coach since I’ve been following the team. That’s not saying much, and Thibodeau can be incredibly stubborn, but I wonder if the issue has more to do with Knicks President Leon Rose’s roster construction.
Music — Loverboy by Brett Dennen. After I graduated college, I briefly worked at a Life Is Good store, where Dennen’s music was in constant rotation. I wasn’t a big fan of the job, but Dennen grew on me. Loverboy came out a year or so later and is likely the album of his I listen to the most.
Game — Magic: The Gathering Arena. During the pandemic, one of my childhood friends was living in Connecticut. He’d come over and we’d play Magic outside in the cold, with masks on. Unfortunately, he’s since moved away. This mobile game helps me get my nerdy fix.
