Letters, Hijack and basketball
We’re having some more work done at our house, so I don’t think I’m going to be able to protest this week. Instead, I plan on sending out a letter. My last one ended up in a bunch of places, including The New York Post. My next letter will highlight Germany’s investment in cultivated-meat research. If you’d like to send your own, check this out: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and listening to lately.
TV — The Recruit. The show is pretty fun! It’s about a young James Bond-type, though I guess it would be more like a young Felix Leiter, since he works for the CIA. The tone is silly, which I enjoy.
TV — Hijack. I’m only about halfway through this seven-episode miniseries, but goodness gracious, what an incredibly-tense thriller. I finish one episode and can’t wait until I have some time to watch the next. Idris Elba stars as a passenger on a hijacked plane, trying to make it home alive.
Music — Christmas In the Heart by Bob Dylan. When this first came out, I think I liked it somewhat ironically. Dylan’s gravelly, late-career voice singing holiday tunes cracked me up. While I fully admit the album is an acquired taste, I now think it’s genuinely good.
Sports — Knicks beat Heat, 100-98. Immanuel Quickley led a remarkable 21-point comeback to secure the win. He’s not New York’s best player, but he might be my favorite. I hope he doesn’t get traded when the Knicks inevitably cash in their assets for a superstar.
Sports — Knicks lose to Suns, 116-113. Ooph. That was a tough loss. Jalen Brunson had 35 points, however it wasn’t quite enough. It would have been really nice to steal this game, since Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal were out for Phoenix.
