Letters, Godzilla and the Noisettes
With Tofurky-day coming up and some other things on the schedule, I don’t think I’m going to be able to protest this week. Instead, I’ll send out a letter to the editor. I haven’t done a great job tracking where my recent ones have ended up, but last week’s was published in a bunch of states.
My next letter will probably make the animal-welfare case for increased federal funding for cultivated-meat research. Hopefully, scientists will come back with some good environmental news about the technology soon, because it’s tough to make the ecological argument with the currently-needed qualifiers. If you’d like to write you own letters, give this a read: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here is some of the stuff I’ve been watching and listening to lately.
TV — Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Between Godzilla 2014 and Shin Godzilla, I got really into the King of Monster franchise, watching all the Japanese and American films in the series. So far, the show has managed to make the human stories interesting, which is something a lot of the movies failed to do.
Music — Wild Young Hearts by The Noisettes. My wife and I are still making our way through One Tree Hill, and this band performed on a recent episode we watched, sparking my interest. I enjoyed their sophomore album, particularly the song Never Forget You. I’m a little surprised I hadn’t heard of the group before.
Sports — Knicks beat Hornets, 122-108. Donte DiVincenzo did a great job replacing a hurt Quentin Grimes in the starting lineup, netting 25 points. Are there any more Villanova Wildcats we can add to this team? Mikal Bridges, perhaps? As is almost always the case, Jalen Brunson anchored New York.
