Letters, Gilmore Girls and Mr. & Mrs. Smith
My next letter is going to highlight China Weekly suggesting American efforts to ban cultivated meat could put China in a position to dominate the future market. Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and reading recently.
Book — The Hammer by Hamilton Nolan. The new release is a valuable look at the state of the labor movement in America. It is alternately depressing and hopeful. Nolan tells the story by profiling labor activists from a variety of industries. Some are names you might be familiar with. Most you likely won’t know.
TV — Gilmore Girls. My wife introduced this to me a while back. Since then we’ve watched the series a number of times. Stars Hallow is a nice place to escape to. All the characters are fundamentally good and when there is conflict the stakes are relatively low. Amy Sherman-Palladino’s writing is very funny.
TV — Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Based on the 2005 film of the same name and a 1996 series I wasn’t aware of, the show is an action-packed romantic comedy. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star as secret agents posing as a married couple, who end up falling in love. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully, there will be a second season.
Sports — Knicks lose to Magic, 118-100. It would have been nice if the score was a little closer, but New York is missing so many players. I’m just happy they managed to get to the All-Star break without incurring more injuries. Hopefully, the team can get healthy in anticipation of the playoffs.
