Letters and more Game of Thrones
Well, I got another letter in the Chicago Tribune. It was the one about the National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative. So far, my most recent letter has appeared in Kentucky, Vermont, and Indiana newspapers. My next one will likely make the environmental case for public funding for cultivated-meat research. If you’re interested in writing your own letters, read the following post:
Part of the reason my letters appear in certain states more often than others is because my state email lists are dramatically uneven in length. Some have more than 100 addresses; some have fewer than 10. This isn’t necessarily a reflection of the size of the state. Rather, it’s because I found preexisting email lists for certain areas.
Companies like Easy Media List sell collections of newspaper email addresses, but they are prohibitively expensive. The New York bundle, for instance, costs $350. My state lists need to be both expanded and updated, however, I’m not sure if I have the energy to do it manually right now.
Let’s round this out with (Cell) Culture Talk, where I highlight what I’ve been watching and reading lately.
TV — Game of Thrones. Up to this point, I’ve tried not to discuss the same thing twice here, even if it’s something I continue to enjoy. I don’t really have a choice now, though. Recently, whenever I have free time, I’ve mostly been watching this HBO series.
There are a lot of great performances in the show. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister stands out the most for me, however. I hope he’s been offered roles worthy of his talent since Game of Thrones wrapped.
Meditation passage — In Your Midst by Hildegard of Bingen. The author is a Catholic saint. I’m going to take a break from adding new passages after I incorporate this. I need to make sure I have my existing ones fully memorized and am actually absorbing some of their meaning.
