Letters, Always Be My Maybe and more
My next letter will make the environmental case for increased public funding for cultivated-meat research. If you want to send out your own letters, give this a read: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching lately.
Movie — Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The MonsterVerse franchise has gotten very silly. I miss the more serious tone of Gareth Edwards’ film. Most of the action here takes place in a subterranean ecosystem. For a better recent flick in the genre, check out last year’s Godzilla Minus One.
Movie — Always Be My Maybe. This is a sweet romantic comedy, starring Ali Wong and Randall Park, who share writing credit on the film with Michael Golamco. It’s about a pair of childhood friends who reconnect as adults. I enjoy the San Francisco setting. Someday, I’d like to get back out there to visit.
Movie — Beverly Hills Cop. Somehow I’d never seen the classic action comedy before. Eddie Murphy plays a Detroit police officer who travels to Southern California to investigate a murder. The film is funny, but a little more restrained than I expected, based on Murphy’s later roles.
Easwaran Digital Library — July 15, 1989. I’m not sure why the EDL only has a small, rotating selection of Eknath Easwaran’s talks available. Maybe it’s a storage issue? I’d definitely prefer if they were all posted and searchable by subject. This one is very good.
