Historic FDA approval, letters and the Knicks
We can’t start anywhere else but the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the first cultivated meat product in the United States. It’s cultivated chicken from Upside Foods, formerly Memphis Meats. The product still needs approval from the United States Department of Agriculture, but it’s a historic milestone.
President Joe Biden’s choice of Merrick Garland as attorney general has been disastrous. There’s no reason for Garland to appoint a special counsel. All it does is delay justice, if justice ever comes. Meanwhile, Hakeem Jeffries is on track to be the next Democratic minority leader. From what I’ve heard, he’s fairly hostile to the party’s left. I wish progressives had their act together enough to run their own candidate.
I’d like to protest this coming week, before we head out of town for Thanksgiving. It’s not a sure thing, though. Either way, I’m sending out a letter highlighting the FDA news. So far, my last letter has appeared in Oregon and Indiana newspapers. If you want tips about writing your own letters, give this a read:
Let’s finish things with (Cell) Culture Talk, a semi-regular feature in which I highlight some of the stuff I’ve been watching lately.
Sports — Knicks beat Jazz, 118-111. I’ve been impressed with Cam Reddish’s play lately. With him and RJ Barrett on the Knicks, we just need to somehow get Zion Williamson to reconstitute the 2018-2019 Duke big three. It probably won’t happen, but it would be cool. Williamson seems like too big a star to stay in New Orleans.
That said, it’s kind of weird that Reddish is taking Quentin Grimes’ minutes, given that Grimes was apparently one of the sticking points in the Donovan Mitchell trade talks. He wasn’t the only sticking point, but he was reportedly one of them. It makes you question New York’s front office.
Sports — Knicks beat Nuggets, 106-103. This was another strong game from Julius Randle. I’ll always be grateful for the year he brought us to the playoffs, but I think we’ve seen this level of play isn’t sustainable for him and when he struggles the vibes get pretty bad. I hope Randle’s trade value improves and the Knicks are able to move him.
Sports — Knicks lose to Warriors, 111-101. You’d like the game to have been a little more competitive. New York was down by 20 points for what felt like most of regulation. But, at the end of the day, Golden State are the defending champions, with multiple hall of famers on their roster.
