Columns, The Residence and more
I’m going to send out that revolution column. If you’d like to submit your own writing, feel free to use my newspaper contact lists: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and playing lately.
TV — The Residence. Uzo Aduba, best known for her work on Orange is the New Black, leads an ensemble cast as a detective investigating a death at the White House. It’s a fun comedic mystery, in the vein of Knives Out or Only Murders in the Building.
Game — Ocarina of Time Randomizer. I turned off the ‘easy’ presets, so this next seed could be significantly harder. The only thing I left on was the open Door of Time. I briefly tried playing without it and the seed felt closer to the vanilla title, and thus less interesting.
Sports — Knicks beat Mavs, 128-113. Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart became the first New York duo to record a triple-double in the same match. Meanwhile, Hart became the franchise’s single-season leader in the statistic. OG Anunoby scored 35 points.
Sports — Knicks lose to Clippers, 126-113. New York’s third-string point guard, Cam Payne, went down with a sprained ankle, leaving rookie Tyler Kolek and new arrival Delon Wright to run the offense. Towns notched 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Los Angeles.
Sports — Knicks beat Bucks, 116-107. Anunoby had another strong offensive showing, putting up 31 points. I don’t know if Milwaukee has gotten worse or New York has gotten better, but it’s been a while since I’ve feared the deer. This goes beyond them missing Damian Lillard.
Sports — Knicks beat Blazers, 110-93. Anunoby and Mikal Bridges have really stepped up in Brunson’s absence. They both scored 28 points here. Happy birthday to Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier, the commentator and former Knicks star, who celebrated his 80th birthday on the broadcast!
Meditation passage — Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace. This was another early favorite of mine that has long since fallen out of rotation. It’s frequently attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi, but scholars haven’t traced the prayer further back than 1912.
