Columns, Sing Sing and Barbara Dane
I’m going to send out that column arguing Democrats should eventually socialize President Donald Trump and oligarch Elon Musk’s assets and use a portion of these to fund cellular-agriculture development.
If you’d like to submit your own writing, I’ve compiled a list of email addresses for newspapers across the country, divided by state: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, let’s do (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and listening to recently.
Movie — Emilia Pérez. I’m trying to watch as many Oscar nominees as I can. This one is pretty controversial, due to the star’s social media history and the film’s portrayal of Mexico and transgender life.
Movie — Sing Sing. It’s a moving drama about an inmate theater group at the titular prison. Many actors in the film are former members of the actually-existing Rehabilitation Through the Arts program.
Movie — Sonic the Hedgehog 3. These Paramount adaptations are enjoyably dumb. I didn’t have a Sega Genesis as a kid. However, I loved the Sonic cartoons and comics. Shadow hadn’t been created yet.
Music — I Hate the Capitalist System by Barbara Dane. Ever since Jacobin wrote about the folk singer, I’ve been meaning to explore her work. There are lots of great covers and original songs here.
Sports — Knicks beat Raptors, 121-115. On the second night of a back to back, New York was leading by 23 points in the third quarter. However, Toronto nearly stole the victory late in the fourth.
Sports — Knicks trade Jericho Sims for Delon Wright. Sims is a hard-working, but limited center. He wasn’t going to get much playing time. I don’t know what role, if any, Wright will have in New York.
Sports — Knicks lose to Celtics, 131-104. I was hoping New York would be able to match up better with the defending champions, but they still aren’t close to Boston’s level. Both squads were dealing with injuries.
