Cell-ag opponents, letters and Grand Theft Auto
So far, I’ve seen my last letter published in a Utah newspaper. My next one will highlight how opponents of cultivated meat seem to argue both it isn’t technologically feasible and should be banned. Of course, if these folks truly believed the former, the latter wouldn’t be necessary. Anyways, it’s time for (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been reading, listening to and watching lately.
Book — Jacked by David Kushner. Grand Theft Auto was an important franchise for me as a teenager in the early 2000s. This text provides a behind-the-scenes look at the series’ development. Rockstar Games’ leadership does not come across as particularly sympathetic.
Audiobook — In the Bleak Midwinter by Julia Spencer-Fleming. The mystery is set in a fictional town in upstate New York, near where I grew up. An Episcopal priest and a local police chief work together to solve the murder of a young woman. The novel is an absorbing debut in a nine-book series.
Sports — Knicks beat Pistons, 113-110. That was way too close for comfort. Honestly, New York would have lost if it weren’t for a no-call on Donte DiVincenzo in the final seconds. Detroit is one of the worst teams in the league.
Sports — Knicks lose to Pelicans, 115-92. DiVincenzo led a skeleton crew with 23 points in this unsuccessful effort. Jalen Brunson was out. Hopefully, the team was just resting him on the second night of a back-to-back.
Sports — Knicks lose to Warriors, 110-99. Brunson and Isaiah Hartenstein returned to the lineup. I guess the latter is on a minutes restriction. Julius Randle, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson can’t come back soon enough.
Sports — Knicks beat Cavs, 107-98. That was an incredibly gritty win against a potential playoff opponent. The headline here, though, was Brunson’s injury in the opening seconds. He had to be helped off the court. Fingers crossed the all-star is OK.
Meditation passage — Remember Me Through Grace by Fakhraddin Ar-Razi. It’s been a while since I added a new passage. The author of this one was a Muslim philosopher and scholar who lived from approximately 1150 to 1210.
