Car trouble, Magic and Michael Bublé
Our second car won’t start again. We got a new battery for it, and thought that had solved the problem, but apparently not. I’m hoping to somehow protest this week, but if it’s not possible, I’ll try to send out another letter.
My last one did pretty well, showing up in Texas, Vermont, New Mexico, and Massachusetts newspapers. I was also excited to see some cultivated-meat letters not written by me. I’m not sure if it’s a number of people sending out the same letter or one person sending out a letter under a number of different names, but it was very cool.
As always, if you want tips on writing your own letters, and newspaper email lists divided by state, check this out:
Anyway, it’s time for (Cell) Culture Talk.
Game — Magic: The Gathering Arena. I try not to repeat things here, but I’m still having a grand old time with this. What a great way to enjoy the hobby without spending money, the major downside of the paper version. As a joke, I started putting together a creature-less (i.e. vegan) deck. I don’t think there’s any political significance to the exercise, but it’s a fun challenge.
I wasn’t having a lot of success, so I decided to include artifact creatures. I figure that’s OK, since they’re basically robots. Anyway, I believe I’ve put together a pretty strong deck, based around four copies of Terisian Mindbreaker and two copies of Cut Your Losses. Hopefully, I can get another two copies of the latter card soon.
All my other cards, not counting mana, exile opponents’ creatures or keep them from attacking and blocking. I imagine mine is a very annoying deck to play against. Opponents can’t really do anything, while Terisian Mindbreaker and Cut Your Losses mill through their cards until they run out and forfeit.
Music — Christmas by Michael Bublé. When I was growing up, Bing Crosby’s White Christmas album was a fixture in my house around the holidays. My wife and I listen to that, and it feels most like Christmas to me, but this is her favorite holiday album. I’ve come to really like Bublé as well.
Sports — Knicks lose to Trail Blazers, 132-129. I usually watch games the morning after they take place. I accidentally saw the final result of this one before I watched it. Still, I was on the edge of my seat down the stretch. What a heartbreaker.
Sports — Knicks lose to Grizzlies, 127-123. Oof, this was another tough loss. Jalen Brunson had a couple of chances to tie or win the game towards the end, but wasn’t able to make his last couple of shots. Still, he’s very clearly New York’s best player.
