Bluesky anti-fascist starter pack
When everyone was initially migrating from Twitter to Bluesky, there were these things called ‘starter packs.’ Essentially, they were lists of people to follow if you were interested in a particular subject.
I don’t really know if they’re super common anymore, but if you’re just checking back into politics after a while away, or you’re an animal activist who hasn’t been paying much attention to the broader landscape, I wanted to provide a brief list of people to follow so you can get up to speed about current threats to democracy.
Of course, there are many other great accounts. But these are a few of my favorites. They should help plug you into the latest news about the anti-fascist movement. Give them a look if you’re so inclined!
@jamellebouie.net — Jamelle Bouie is one of the few New York Times columnists who I regularly find to be worth reading. He has a deep knowledge of American history, which I admire.
@amandalitman.bsky.social — Amanda Litman is the co-founder and president of Run for Something, which recruits and supports the next generation of Democratic candidates.
@brianbeutler.bsky.social — Brian Beutler is a blogger and podcaster, but I’m most familiar with his social media presence, which consistently critiques Democratic gerontocracy and timidity.
@lioneltrolling.bsky.social — John Ganz was a big contributor to left-wing debates about whether Trumpism should be considered fascist. His Unpopular Front Substack is very insightful.
@moiradonegan.bsky.social — Moira Donegan is a feminist who writes for The Guardian and hosts the podcast In Bed With the Right. She challenges many of my unexamined assumptions.
@adamserwer.bsky.social — Adam Serwer is an Atlantic writer who, among other things, coined the phrase ‘the cruelty is the point’ to describe Trumpist policies, that has since become ubiquitous.
@leahgreenberg.bsky.social — Leah Greenberg is the co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, which is one of the largest and most influential groups in the current anti-fascist resistance.
