Avian flu, letters and the Knicks
I made ten fresh email addresses. These include two with Yahoo, two with Outlook, two with Mail.com, two with GMX, and two with Zoho Mail. I’m going to try to spread my messages across these over seven days. Hopefully it works!
My next letter is going to highlight the recent spread of avian flu, before making the public-health argument for increased public funding for cultivated-meat research. If you would like to send out your own letters, give this a read: https://slaughterfreeamerica.substack.com/p/how-to-write-letters-to-newspapers-6eb
Anyway, it’s time for (Cell) Culture Talk. Here’s what I’ve been watching and playing recently.
Movie — Bodies Bodies Bodies. I really enjoyed the comedic horror film. It wasn’t too disturbing, which I appreciate as someone who isn’t the biggest fan of the genre. Halina Reijn directed an ensemble cast that was mostly unknown to me.
Movie — Bull Durham. I’d never seen this 1988 classic set in the world of minor-league baseball. It’s pretty fun. A veteran catcher and a sports groupie mentor a hotshot pitcher. There’s a love triangle between them as well.
Game — Social Democracy: An Alternate History. This is an interesting text-based title in which you manage the Social Democratic Party of Germany and try to prevent the rise of the Nazis. The interactive fiction was written by Autumn Chen. It’s currently free to play on a browser.
Sports — Knicks lose to Heat, 109-99. Ooph, that was New York’s third straight loss. Jalen Brunson had an off night, after being named Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Donte DiVincenzo led the squad with 31 points.
Sports — Knicks beat Kings, 120-109. It was a gritty win. Overshadowing the game, however, was news Julius Randle will require season-ending surgery. This will significantly lower New York’s playoff ceiling, which is a bummer.
Sports — Knicks lose to Bulls, 108-100. OG Anunoby returned to the lineup from injury. Josh Hart was ejected on a call even Chicago’s commentators thought should have been a flagrant 1. New York couldn’t complete the comeback after going down early.
